Geoff Lawton

Geoff Lawton (1928-2003) was a master engineer and a fabulous saxophonist. In the early 1960s, he decided he wanted to make a saxophone mouthpiece and experimented with many prototypes.

He then settled on what was to become the classic Lawton design - a beautiful, great-sounding mouthpiece with sleek lines and a unique, innovative ligature.

Geoff demonstrated his mouthpiece to the saxophonists in the legendary Count Basie and Stan Kenton Orchestras when they toured the UK. Very soon the entire sax sections of both bands were playing on Lawton mouthpieces.

Geoff passed away in 2003 and Jason, his son, has continued the family business.

However, the appeal of Lawton mouthpieces is not restricted to the field of jazz. Many famous sax players in the rock, pop and jazz-rock genres have also played on Lawton mouthpieces. To name but a few, Courtney Pine (Jazz Warriors, Mercury Prize nominee); Gary Barnacle (David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Elvis Costello, Jamiroquai) and Nik Carter (Lily Allen, Blackjack Horns, Mark Ronson, Ed Sheeran).
